It was time for the dreamers and disruptors to shine at the first FoodTalk Awards, held on the opening night of London Tech Week
Oh, what a night – the brightest and best of the UK food tech industry gathered at London’s OXO2 on 12 June to celebrate innovation in all its diverse forms. Always brilliant, sometimes bonkers and never boring, the products that had been shortlisted for the inaugural awards represented the passion, inspiration and dedication that is so characteristic of the sector.
It wouldn’t have been a FoodTalk event without some tasty offerings, so guests were invited to take part in a people’s choice award at the start of the evening. From ale made of toast to deliciously boozy ice cream, there was plenty to tempt the taste buds and split the vote. Whether munching on spicy chicken paté from J’Maker or chocolates from a Fifth Dimension, the food and drink was nothing short of mind-blowing – and that was before the three-course dinner even began…
But the real focus of the evening was innovation and the people who are helping to keep Britain at the forefront of food tech. This was their time to step into the spotlight – deservedly so – and their delight at being publicly recognised for their amazing work was a joy to see.
Speakers included FoodTalk Show founder and co-presenter Sue Nelson and the fabulous Carolyn Steel, whose talk on how food shapes our cities managed to be both fascinating and funny. We were also joined by Ali Morrow from the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation and a host of other top industry figures.
The Gold award winners will be appearing on The FoodTalk Show later this year and their prize also included a consultation with Crowdfooding, which puts innovators in touch with investors and key industry stakeholders. In the meantime, you can see the full list of Gold and Silver award winners at www.foodtalkawards.com
With awards for packaging, smart kitchen tech and food writing, no one was left out of the celebration. So, if you didn’t enter your innovative product or snap up tickets for this year’s event, watch this space for news of next year’s awards!
