As champions of food and drink innovation, we’re chuffed at this year’s Queen’s Awards for Enterprise winners

Having launched our own FoodTalk Awards last year, we like nothing better than to see creative geniuses getting the recognition they deserve.

So, it’s good news that several tasty British businesses have received Queen’s Awards for Enterprise. The Innovation category featured GDR Food Technology, trading as Just Gluten Free Bakery, while three companies scooped awards in the International Trade class: superfood distributor Go Superfoods, confectionery manufacturer Honeycomb Project Management and craft spirits producer Maverick Spirits.

The food and drink industry was also represented in the Sustainable Development category, thanks to ingredients manufacturer LittlePod. Business Secretary Sajid Javid praised the winners for their contribution to enterprise and for helping to drive the growing economy.

We firmly believe that foodtech is the most exciting sector in UK innovation, packed with brilliant talents who are working on projects of true importance for the future. Whether they’re improving quality of life for people suffering from food intolerances, working on cutting-edge technology or developing ways to make our food and drink industry more sustainable, there’s a lot going on that deserves to be celebrated.

If you’re not sure what foodtech actually is or why it’s so important, it’s time to educate yourself on this vital industry. We can help in two ways: firstly, make sure you tune in to The FoodTalk Show at 4pm every Thursday or download the podcast anytime from iTunes or any major podcast directory.

Secondly, our founder and presenter Sue Nelson has written her very own book on the subject – that’s how passionate she is about this topic! Foodtech UK – What It Is and Why It’s Hot is available here and contains everything you need to know about the fabulous future of food.

Once you’ve read the book and listened to the show, you might realise that you’re already a part of the foodtech movement! In that case, what are you waiting for? Get in touch with the FoodTalk Show team on hello@foodtalk.co.uk and share your story with the world
