Time to celebrate
It’s finally happened – the results of the 2018 FoodTalk Awards have been announced
After a spectacular first year in 2017, we weren’t sure that the response to the FoodTalk Awards could get any better. Boy, were we wrong!
We received an absolute avalanche of entries from amazing UK companies who are all innovating in the world of food and drink. This year’s awards turned out to be yet another great celebration of the UK’s fabulous foodtech scene.
So, who picked up the coveted trophies this year?
The All in the Taste People’s Choice Award for Food went to Rubies in the Rubble for their ketchup made from food waste bananas, while the Drinks category was won by Longflint Drinks Co for their delicious Hibiscus gin tonic.
On The Menu’s Real Good Ketchup, which uses 78% less salt and xylitol from sustainable birch forests, was named champion in the Clean Eating category. When it came to handing out the Free-From gong though, our judges just couldn’t decide, so they awarded two golds: Oast to Host’s gluten-free, wheat flour-free pastry mix and Bonnie Yau’s vegan and peanut-free Thai style satay sauce made up the triumphant twosome.
Cornware’s biodegradable sushi tray had the Smart Packaging award all wrapped up, while Mr Lee’s Noodles received Gold in the Smart Tech category for their hot vending kiosk.
The Presenters’ Award was given to the FoodTalk Show team’s favourite guest from the last year – fighting their way to the top of a tough field was Dunnet Bay Distillers for their Holy Grass Vodka.
Finally, the Impossible to Categorise Award is presented in recognition of people’s huge contributions to the food industry. Congratulations to Helen Roberts of Wandsworth Foodies, who is helping local businesses to launch and grow.
