Kadode Kampot Pepper
This is literally the best product in the world?
In 2008 Michael Winters began a 6 month trip around Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos when he visited Kampot Province in the South Western corner of Cambodia for the first time. He noticed a direct connection between pepper and the various Cambodian national dishes he was eating such as Beef Lok Lak, Fish Amok, Kampot pepper crab and lots of simple fish dishes all enhanced by a basic fresh lime juice and ground pepper dipping sauce. He bought some Kampot pepper to take home.
When Michael returned in 2012 he wanted to buy a larger quantity of pepper, and was ‘introduced’ to Kadode (kay-doe-day) Kampot pepper for the first time. Many local farmers produce pepper in the traditional organic manner, along with hand sorting and grading. From that point onwards he couldn’t use anything else. Some time later, when Michael began to run out of his pepper supplies he contacted some of the local Cambodian farmers on their plantations. He asked them if they would consider partnering with him to introduce Kadode pepper to the UK? The answer was an immediate ‘Yes’.
Now it has been voted the world's best food product at The Great Taste Awards of 2022. Find out more about Kadode here and listen again to Michael on the show with AJ and Susie.
